St. Joseph (2023)

A journey with Jesus and Mary accompanied by St. Joseph

March 19 is the feast of St. Joseph, one of the patrons of our Arnoldus family.
On December 8, 2020, with the Apostolic Letter “Patris corde” (with a father’s heart), Pope Francis has invited the Church to dedicate St. Joseph.
Pope Francis highlights some qualities of St. Joseph that serve as inspirations for the daily life of Christians: a loving, tender and obedient person; a person who does the will of God and who helps his/her neighbor; a person who is brave, creative and an example of love for the poor; a person who teaches the value, dignity and  joy of work; as well as a person and  who had the graciousness to accept to play second fiddle to Mary and Jesus.
The devotion of St. Arnold to the adoptive father of Jesus, made our founder commit several of the missionary houses to the protection of St. Joseph.

   In The Little Messenger of the Heart of Jesus, Arnold writes about St. Joseph:

“There is no doubt that the Joseph of the Old Testament must be regarded as the model of Jesus’ foster father in many aspects of his life. Just as Joseph was the administrator of pharaoh’s granary in Egypt, so St. Joseph, is the administrator of the heavenly granaries. It is also true that the Church is the living Christ. And just as St. Joseph nourished and protected Christ and his holy Mother during their earthly lives, so he still nourishes and protects the servants of Christ who have devoted themselves to the practice of virtue in a special way. May St. Joseph also protect us and provide us not only with the earthly but also the heavenly bread of grace, so that we can become really good and spiritual.
Good and loving St. Joseph pray for us! Amen.”

With St. Arnold we pray:
“Good and loving St. Joseph, pray for us! Amen”.

Prayer to St. Joseph

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen.
(Pope Francis, Patris Code)
