The texts of this publication have been taken from chronicles, letters and early written reports. A reader might gain more inside into the event of transferring Mother Maria Helena Stollenwerk to the cloistered branch of the Servants of the Holy Spirit and her early death. Original thoughts of Arnold Janssen, to combine a monastic prayers life with an active apostolate, did not work out. He decided to establish two branches of sisters, cloistered and missionary. The Missionary Sisters’ chronicles are a poignant testimony of the personal feelings surrounding Sr. Maria Stollenwerk’s transfer to the cloistered branch – her feelings and those of her sisters in the missionary branch. She was caught in a dilemma, and it was never entirely resolved. Her writings and prayers lead to a growing conviction that this remarkable woman had a double vocation: missionary and contemplative.
