Arnold Janssen was very pleased as he reflected on the work of the first missionaries in China. He put great value on the work and hardship those confreres endured in the far-off China at the service of the Lord. So he encouraged them not to lose courage, no matter what happened, because God was looking with satisfaction upon them as they toiled with devotion in his supreme service.

This appreciation of Arnold Janssen was clearly shown in the many letters he sent and received from China. Those letters show us the world in which the missionary work was done as well as giving us an idea of the problems and human limitations of those first missionaries. We can also discover the deep conviction and unwavering love of Arnold Janssen in following up with his missionaries and encouraging them.
