This book is a very personal reflection of the author on his experiences as a teacher of foreign language and business ethics, and as director of a dormitory for university students in Japan. It is showing basically the development of his spirituality as a particular individual priest, missionary, and member of the Society of the Divine Word. His work reflects the development of mission and spirituality of the Society of the Divine Word from the time of its founder, Saint Arnold Janssen, up to our own days. The greater part of this work is about prayer and meditation as keys to an understanding of an ascent from the human to the Divine Word. In explaining prayer, he takes into account Asian, Native American, and also, Western forms of meditation and also clarifies how we can become contemplatives in action. Readers might be reinspired and rededicated to the mission tasks entrusted to them by the Holy Spirit. Fr. La Forge is showing here, in his own inimitable way, what spirituality as a process of right relationship with himself, with others, and with God, means for one who lives and works in a foreign culture.
